About General Decoration

Founded by Jules Wabbes in 1969 in Brussels, General Decoration originally focused on the designer's celebrated metal accessories. Today, we continue Jules Wabbes' legacy through the production of both his metal accessories and his furniture with the same focus on materiality and local production. Sophisticated collaborations and reinterpretations ensure Jules Wabbes' relevance for the future.

The level of craftsmanship and the use of the very best materials have always been Jules Wabbes' signature and still are to this day. The designer never budged an inch on production even when the design landscape incited him to. Faithful to this conviction, General Decoration continues this quest by working only with a handful of Belgian craftsmen who make each piece by hand in beautifully noble materials such as bronze, brass, steel and wengé.

After Jules Wabbes' passing, General Decoration remained a family business. Since 2014, Marie Ferran-Wabbes, Jules Wabbes' daughter and art historian, collaborates with Vincent and Caroline Colet to reinvigorate General Decoration with the ideals and spirit of its beginnings.

Together with Marie, Vincent, an antiques dealer and editor of objects, leads the production and direction of the General Decoration workshops, whereas Caroline, with a background in set decorating, oversees the selection and curation of the archive. Constant dialogue with their fifteen carefully chosen artisanal workshops and the development of new cultural collaborations breathe new life into the legacy of the influential Belgian designer.

General Decoration holds the exclusive license to produce and edit the Jules Wabbes archive.
